If you’ve heard the story of Lazarus, you know it’s the one where Jesus raised him from the dead.
For me, what’s powerful about this story is not the act of Jesus raising him from the dead but rather why he did it.
“When he heard this, Jesus said, ‘This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.’”
John 11:4 NIV
When I read these words, I find so much comfort. Jesus is saying that he allowed Lazarus to go through death so people would see God’s glory through his story.
You guys…
This is my story. Okay, I haven’t died, and neither have my kids, but I believe this in my heart. God has allowed my kids’ disorder, NKH, for the same reason.
So God could be glorified!
God is doing some amazing work in me and through our story, and I always come back to the why. I don’t know why God allows all suffering, but I do know why he allowed it for Lazarus, and I have peace knowing it’s the same reason for me.
If you are suffering, run to Jesus. He is the only one who will provide real rest, the kind of rest that will renew your soul. If you let him use your story to bring him glory, he will do miracles beyond your imagination.
This isn’t the story I wanted, but it’s God’s story, and I am forever blessed beyond measure to be a part of it.
